Awards and Prizes

The Australian and New Zealand Optical Society offers several prizes in recognition of members' achievements.

The ANZOS Awards run annually and are an excellent opportunity for our members to showcase their outstanding contributions and be recognized for their exceptional work. Nominations for each prize application or nomination open mid-year. There are a range of prizes and awards for members at all different stages of their professional careers, therefore we encourage all our members to look at the awards on offer and consider applying. All applications and nominations are to be forwarded directly to the ANZOS email and can be addressed to the applications and nominations to the ANZOS Secretary.

The Wanda Henry Prize is awarded at the Australian and New Zealand Conference on Optics and Photonics meeting for the best student paper.

ANZOS awards Life Membership to a small number of members who have made sustained contributions to optics throughout their career.

W.H. (Beattie) Steel Medal

Recognises an outstanding career contribution to the field of optics in Australia or New Zealand by a member of ANZOS.

ANZOS-SPIE Jim Piper ECR/ MCR Entrepreneurial Researcher Prize

Recognises an outstanding early career researcher for an early-stage entrepreneurial activity/ start-up in the field of optics, lasers, or photonics.

John Love Award

Recognises innovations and technical advances in the field of optics and photonics developed in Australia and/or New Zealand.

ANZOS Mid-Career Prize

Acknowledges academic achievement, leadership and service in mid-career optical scientists and engineers.

Geoff Opat Early Career Researcher Prize

Recognises an outstanding early career researcher for their contribution to the field of optics and photonics.

Postgraduate Student Prize

Recognises outstanding contributions by postgraduate students to the field of optics and photonics in Australia and New Zealand.

Warsash Science Communication Prize in Optics

Encourages the wider promotion of science and the importance of optics and photonics through accessible writing and/or non-traditional forms of communication.

Wanda Henry Prize

Awarded at ANZCOP for the best student paper.

Life Membership

Awarded to a small number of members who have made sustained contributions to optics throughout their career.
